Woodcuts
The big Vandercook proofing press that once stood in the composing room at The Yolla Bolly Press is now in my Watsonville studio and will be put to use for future woodcut prints. It is the same press that I used over a twenty-year period proofing metal type for limited-edition books published by the Press.
In 1995 I was commissioned by the Press to cut and print a suite of eight 3-color woodcuts to illustrate The Tree and The Nature of Nature by John Fowles. The illustrations were printed directly from the woodcuts onto the book pages. A more recent collaboration was with Foolscap Press of Santa Cruz for an edition of Ursula Le Guin's story Direction of the Road. Links to both of these publishers may be found on the Contact page.
I bring my years of letterpress printing experience to the production of woodcut prints. Future prints will include ideas from my Stories series ... and perhaps the occasional tree!
